Community Development Training

Paid training positions for selected Nnee Bich’o Nii CDT participant(s). This includes direct supervision, training development courses and hands-on-training opportunities. This is also in conjunction with classroom instruction, under the supervision of a journey-level person or trade professional, in which the CDT participant learns practical and theoretical aspects of a highly skilled occupation.

CDT participants are required to pass a pre-employment drug test. Thereafter, they are required to attend the Nnee Bich’o Nii World-of-Work (WOW) classes, which are designed to prepare them to obtain, keep, and excel at a new job. It also offers basic employability skills, effective communication, problem solving, resume building, and interviewing skills that help the participants develop good work habits that facilitate ongoing success. Overall, the CDT participants gain work experience!

The different types of jobs CDT can be assigned are: Maintenance Laborer, Receptionist/File Clerk, Transit Van Driver, Office Assistant, Building Maintenance Assistant, Auto Detailer, Building Custodian, Warehouse Helper, Office Support, Assistant Dispatcher, Cook Assistant, Driver/Custodian, Assistant Teacher, Fire Prevention Technician, just to name a few. We collaborate with tribal and non-tribal entities.

Here are some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) regarding CDT:

Who qualifies for Job Placement Services? Current, active Nnee Bich’o Nii clients.

Are there any forms to complete and submit? Yes. Your department will be required to submit a request for an Nnee Bich’o Nii participant, complete and submit a Community Development Training (CDT) packet and supervise and monitor the Nnee Bich’o Nii CDT participant(s).

How does Nnee Bich’o Nii Program assist with needed work items? Nnee Bich’o Nii Program can offer Support Services, to selected Nnee Bich’o Nii CDT participants, for Work Site items such as work boots, gloves, shirts, socks, pants, etc. CDT participants need to contact their assigned Nnee Bich’o Nii Case Manager.

How does my department benefit from these services? When a current Nnee Bich’o Nii participant is assigned to your department as a CDT participant, you will have a chance to work with them to gain valuable paid work experience and have a part in assisting them to become ready for actual employment. Once gainfully employed, they will move to becoming self-sufficient.

Are there any department fees associated to this program? No. The department must ensure necessary tool(s) and/or equipment(s) are available for the assigned tasks.

What if my department requires a background check? SCAT Human Resources will conduct a State, Federal, County, City and Tribal background check. If it is determined that the CDT participant’s background is unfavorable for your position, the CDT participant will either be place in an acceptable Work Site or removed from the Nnee Bich’o Nii CDT Project due to background issues/concerns.

World of Work Class

Participants of the Nnee Bich’o Nii Program are required to attend World of Work Classes. These classes are designed to help participants prepare to enter the workforce. They learn to do job searches that are geared to their strengths and experience, write professional resumes and cover letters.

Fatherhood is Sacred

Native American Fatherhood & Families Association’s (NAFFA) “Fatherhood is Sacred®” (FIS) & “Motherhood is Sacred™” (MIS) is a program that consists of 12 sessions. The group meets every Tuesday, from 1:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m. at a designated site. Every effort is made to keep the group location consistent. Weekly attendance is required to remain in the Nnee Bich’o Nii (TANF) On-The-Job (OJT) Project. Each participant must attend each of the 12 unique program sessions. Each participant MUST respect the confidentiality of all participants, particularly as it relates to feeling and experiences of each individual. Several topics discussed are: Introduction to Fatherhood Is Sacred (FIS) curriculum, Laying the FIS foundation, talking about the Creator, Choices (bad & good), being a Teachable participant, Wisdom, Service, Self-Identity & Relationships. At the successful conclusion of the curriculum, a Fatherhood Is Sacred Graduation is scheduled and the graduate is encouraged to continue attending the weekly FIS classes as a FIS Facilitator trainee.
